Memories from the DNC

As I continue working on my portfolio, certain images catch my attention and provide a moment of reflection. It often reminds me how shielding my camera can be. I can still feel the intensity of the this moment that was so comfortable when I pressed the shutter. I remember the rain grazing my hand as so many strong emotions were pouring into my ear. This was a time to remember.

Panoramic

I took a trip up to Big Meadows, VA in the Shenandoah Nation Park to catch the Milky Way for my panoramic assignment. I wish the conditions were a little better. The glow around the trees comes from light pollution from the moon. New moons make for the best conditions. Astro photography is something I've been interested in for a while and will continue to pursue. Its very exciting to me!

DNC 2012

For the audience at the 2012 DNC, President Barrack Obama appeared other places besides the main stage. On the night of the speaceh, downtown Charlotte streets were littered with vendors selling souvenirs commending the former President. Amongst the T-shirts and Buttons, hand puppets were a hot ticket for patrons.

China

I went back through my shots from China recently looking for images to add to my digital portfolio. I stumbled across this one that I captured after getting off the boat ride down the Li River. I love the expression in the mans face. If I remember correctly, the man was taking payments for pictures with him and his bird, hence the expression.

Off camera flash

This weeks blog called for a shot using off camera flash. I decided to use a recent edit that I did from my on location assignment for small format. I didn't turn this particular shot in for the assignment, but I really like how the expression framed the subjects eyes here.

Sunday hike

I dont usually do this kind of thing, but I really like the bokeh on this image! I went out on a hike this past sunday with a friend. We stumbled upon these random flowers and had to stop!

Industrial

On saturday I assisted a fellow student on his industrial shoot. We got to watch a printing press in action at the local newspaper here in Asheboro.It was amazing to see!

On location

I decided to shoot my good friend marques for our on location assignment this past Saturday. He is a member of a well known band from Charlotte, NC, so I thought what better place than overlooking the city. I was pretty excited about the light I was working with. I couldn't have asked for a better sky.

Road trip

I wanted to get some practice with sound slides for our upcoming assignment, so I decided to take a little road trip down to Wilmington and document my good friends band. This was taken outback at the venue while we were waiting for them to play.

Weekly #5

"Bokeh" is a japanese word for "blur". We had to properly capture bokeh for small format weekly #5. This is the image that I decided on.

Fabric assignment

This is a shot that I turned in for product lighting. We were required to shoot a piece of fabric of our choice and properly convey its qualities. I chose a pink bamboo fabric.

36 strangers- Raleigh

I took a trip up to the flea-market in Raleigh with a fellow student to get some shots for our "36 strangers" assignment. I had a lot of fun meeting some interesting people. This project has turned out way better than I expected. I did some editing to this one and went into b&w.

Baseball

I've been shooting a lot of baseball the last couple weeks for small format. Here is one of my favorite shots so far.

Weekly #3- Light Painting

We had to do some light painting in Small Format this week. I had several ideas for this weekly, but only one of the shoots turned out like I envisioned. This is the image I decided on!

ABC's occurring naturally in nature

As a follow up to our recent "ABC" lab assignment, we were given a major project which required us to find and shoot all 26 letters found in nature.

All about the eyes...

Last week we received an assignment titled, "Its all about the eyes." It required us to go out into the community and photograph a stranger while focusing on the eyes of our subject.

Small Format Lab

After being checked out on the different lens available for us to use, we received an assignment requiring us to take use of the longer focal lengths. I shot this at 200mm.

ABC Photo Assignment

This was for an assignment titled "typography ABC". We were required to shoot all 26 letters of the alphabet on signs around the community and put them together in photoshop on a 8x10 canvas.
